Joma Alpacas is situated in Merton, Victoria on highly productive land halfway between Mansfield and Yea. Flanked by the Strathbogies on one side and a short distance from Lake Eildon on the other side, 2 hrs drive from the Melbourne CBD.
Commenced in July 2006 as a retirement , lifestyle change in Yellingbo in the beautiful Yarra Valley. With our ever expanding herd we found the land in Yellingbo too poor and too small, hence our move to Merton. Not being the reading, golf or knitting type, we wanted something that would keep us active and that would also earn us a little bit in retirement. Many said we were crazy starting this at almost retirement age. However we love the change and have become totally addicted to our animals. Hans works part time as a painter handyman and Christine has now fully retired from nursing. We have a small menagerie of animals sheep, chickens, dogs and Burmese cats.
We started off with a female and cria from The Gorge alpacas in Sydney and now numbers have increased to approx. 110 alpacas. Predominantly white and light fawn and also a small number of coloured animals.
Joma Alpacas has been successful at many shows, local country Victoria and interstate we continually strive to improve our herd quality with selective breeding.
We offer a variety off services such as agistment, stud services, after sales consultation, on farm alpaca handling and husbandry. Quality animals are available in affordable packages, pets and guard animals. We are also able to offer alpacas that would be suitable as future stud males. There are currently 8 working stud males in a wide variety of colours at Joma Alpacas. Please refer to the section showcasing the stud males.
